UMC held the 6th Symposium of Operating Room Nurses, timed to coincide with International Operating Room Nurses Day. The event was a significant professional gathering, bringing together specialists from across the country and reaffirming the key role of nursing staff in the healthcare system.

The symposium provided a platform for exchanging experiences, discussing modern nursing standards, the role of the operating room nurse in the surgical team, and current issues related to improving the quality and safety of surgical care.

The presentations focused on the environmental responsibility of medical organizations. Participants discussed the implementation of sustainable development principles and the UMC Go Green initiative, which aims to promote the rational use of resources in clinics, including conserving water and energy, reducing environmental impact, and fostering an environmentally responsible approach in everyday medical practice.

A significant portion of the program included practice-oriented presentations, during which surgical nurses shared their professional experience in caring for patients before and after surgical interventions, the specifics of managing and treating surgical and postoperative wounds, and modern approaches to the storage, sterilization, and use of surgical instruments. Issues of adhering to safety standards, asepsis, and antisepsis were discussed, as well as the role of nursing staff in reducing the risk of postoperative complications.

A total of 583 specialists participated in the symposium, including online and offline registration:

• Online – 60 participants;

• Offline participation – 262 participants;

• From the regions – 106 participants;

• From Astana – 186 participants.

The symposium once again emphasized that the surgical nurse is an integral part of the surgical team, whose professionalism directly affects patient safety, the smooth operation of the operating room, and the successful outcome of surgical treatment.

Holding such events is crucial for the development of nursing, strengthening the professional community, enhancing the competencies of specialists, and recognizing the contribution of operating room nurses to the healthcare system.
