UMC hosts a master class on surgical treatment of laryngeal pathology in children | Корпоративный фонд "University Medical Center"

On January 26 to 29, 2026, the University Medical Center’s (UMC) Mother and Child Center hosts a master class on “Surgical Treatment of Laryngeal Pathology in Children.” The master class focuses on modern approaches to diagnosis, surgical treatment, and postoperative management of pediatric patients with severe grade III-IV laryngeal stenosis, including chronic cannula wearers.

Leading speakers:

• Bekpan Almat Zhaksylykovich, MD, PhD, top-category physician, otolaryngologist-surgeon, head of the Head and Neck Program, and head of the Pediatric Surgery Department No. 2 at the UMC Maternal and Child Health Center;

• Autalipov Darkhan Khasanovich, otolaryngologist-surgeon.

Guest speaker:

• Dmitry Viktorovich Pryanikov, MD, PhD, Head of the ENT Department at the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital (Moscow), otolaryngologist-surgeon, and pediatric surgeon.

The purpose of the master class is to enhance the professional competence of resident physicians and otolaryngologists in the treatment of complex laryngeal pathologies in children, as well as to introduce modern surgical technologies into clinical practice.

The master class program includes:

• demonstration of modern endoscopic and open surgical methods for treating severe laryngeal stenosis;

• development of step-by-step surgical treatment strategies for patients with complex pathologies;

• analysis of clinical cases with prolonged and complicated disease;

• development of algorithms for postoperative management, rehabilitation, and dynamic observation;

• discussion of indications for reconstructive and plastic interventions, placement and replacement of T-tubes, and decannulation methods. The practical portion of the master class is conducted using real clinical cases, adhering to confidentiality, bioethics, and current regulatory requirements. During the event, surgical care will be provided to 16 children in need of surgical treatment. All patients are treated at the UMC Maternity and Childhood Center and are hospitalized within the guaranteed volume of free medical care under the State Funded Free Medical Care Program.

During the master class, morning rounds are held daily before the start of the surgical day in Pediatric Surgery Department No. 2. During these rounds, the patients’ postoperative condition is assessed, treatment plans are adjusted, further management strategies are discussed, and questions from the children’s legal representatives are answered.

Particular attention is paid to the educational component. After each surgical procedure, educational sessions are held with the participation of the patients’ legal representatives. These sessions include a clinical case review, demonstration of photos and videos of the surgery, a step-by-step explanation of the procedure, and a discussion of the postoperative period and subsequent follow-up strategies. In addition, five UMC physicians are participating in the master class, undergoing advanced training and sharing practical experience with a visiting specialist. This training format facilitates the adoption of advanced technologies and their subsequent implementation in everyday clinical practice.

The master class is organized with the financial support of the Voluntary Society Foundation “Miloserdie” (VSF Mercy) and the Samruk-Kazyna Trust Corporate Fund.

UMC notes that holding such events is of strategic importance for the development of pediatric medicine. Combining practical patient care with specialist training contributes to a sustainable improvement in the quality of medical care and expanded access to high-tech treatments for children with rare and complex diseases.
