On March 15-16, 2024, the First Kazakhstan Neonatal Symposium “Bobek” was held at the University Medical Center clinics.

In recent years, the survival rate of both full-term and premature babies, including those with extremely low birth weight, has significantly increased. This was facilitated by the constant development of the skills of medical specialists in this field.
The honorary guest of the symposium was the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akmaral Alnazarova: “On the part of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, we are ready to provide all necessary support both for the neonatal service and for the personnel who organize all the work. It is difficult to overestimate the role of this symposium, the issues that will be voiced at this event will have to become the basis for a further roadmap plan, which the ministry will take into work without fail – this should be the starting point for improving the situation in the organization of care for our little patients. I would like to thank our colleagues from foreign countries who dedicated their time and understand the importance of this issue. Your experience and participation are invaluable for the healthcare system of Kazakhstan, and we are ready to adopt it,” the Minister said.

The main purpose of the meeting is to bring together leading specialists from Kazakhstan, as well as from near and far abroad to solve urgent problems and share experiences. Neonatologists, neonatal surgeons, obstetricians and gynecologists, pediatricians, pediatric intensive care specialists, pediatric cardiac surgeons and nursing specialists became active participants of the symposium. The main topics of discussion included the introduction of new technologies for newborn care into healthcare practice, analysis of clinical cases, and features of communication with both patients and their parents.
The format of the event allowed listeners to participate both offline and connect to the online broadcast. The total number of offline participants was more than 500 people. The event was held in parallel in three clinics: at the Mother and Child Center UMC speakers took place in the neonatology section, at the Diagnostic Center UMC clinical participants analyzed cases on neonatal surgery, and at the Heart Center UMC nursing specialists conducted master classes on primary resuscitation care for infants and also made presentations and suggestions for improvement of care for little patients.
The official sponsors of the event were TOO Diagal, Unicmed Asia, Mindray, Acino, Novomed KZ, Delrus Kazakhstan, Neo Meds LLP, Medela, MPA Medical Partners, Intersurgical JSC, BioLine Kazakhstan LLP.
The Kazakhstan Neonatal Symposium will be an annual event that will serve as a basis for the systematic improvement of care for premature babies.
