Within the framework of World Kidney Day Nazarbayev University School of Medicine (NUSOM) and “University Medical Center” Corporate Fund (UMC) are organizing a campaign aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of kidney health. The events will be held on March 14 and 15, 2024 in Astana.
There is a worldwide tendency towards development of kidney disease among the population. This is due to an increase in the incidence of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. World Kidney Day has been celebrated annually on the second Thursday of March since 2006.
NUSOM and UMC represent an educational base and multidisciplinary innovative clinics, such as the Mother and Child Center, Diagnostic Center and Heart Center, which provide medical help to adults and children from different regions of the country starting from diagnosis of diseases to the stage of donor kidney transplantation.
Joining the global campaign, on March 14, 2024, during the period 9:00 – 15:00 hours, free screening campaigns for residents and guests of the capital will be held on the basis of UMC clinics. The examination will include consultation, blood pressure measurement, blood and urine tests to check kidney function.
On March 15, 2024, the conference “Healthy kidneys for all: ensuring equal access to medical care and optimal drug practice” for medical specialists of the capital will be held in the building of the NUSOM from 13:00 to 18:00.
