Admission procedure for doctoral studies

The applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s degree;
    • Master’s degree or completion of a medical residency program.
  2. Academic Performance:
    • GPA: 2.75 out of 4.00.
  3. English Language Proficiency:
    1. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting one of the following valid international certificates:
      • IELTS – overall score of at least 6.0 in each section;
      • TOEFL iBT – minimum score 90;
    2. Exemption from English test results is granted to candidates who:
      • have obtained an academic degree in a country where English is the official language of instruction and communication; or
      • have completed an academic degree program taught entirely in English.
  4. Motivation and Interest in the Program:
    • Demonstrated through a motivation letter explaining the applicant’s academic and professional goals.
  5. Academic Writing Skills:
    • Demonstrated through a sample of written work (e.g., research paper, essay, or published article).
  6. Relevant Research Interest and Knowledge of the Intended Research Area:
    • Demonstrated through a written research proposal (concept note) outlining the planned doctoral research topic.
  1. Application addressed to the Chairman of the Board;
  2. Completed online application form;
  3. Curriculum Vitae (CV);
  4. Originals and copies of diplomas and transcripts confirming higher and postgraduate education;
  5. Motivational essay explaining the reasons for applying to the PhD program;
  6. Abstract or summary of the proposed dissertation research;
  7. List of scientific or methodological publications over the past three years (if available);
  8. Certificates of scientific achievements, including grants, awards, or conference participation (if available);
  9. Original and copy of an identity document;
  10. Recommendation letter from a person able to assess the applicant’s academic and professional abilities (if available);
  11. Medical certificate (Form 075/U);
  12. Six (6) photographs, size 3×4 cm, pre-cut and signed on the reverse side, placed in an A6 envelope;
  13. Employment record sheet or another document confirming work experience, certified by the HR department;
  14. Pre-selection results;
  15. Certificate confirming foreign language proficiency;
  16. Cardboard file folder (1 unit);
  17. Official Kazakh language proficiency certificate (KAZTEST) issued by the National Testing Center, except for foreign citizens.

Admission to the PhD program is conducted in two stages: preliminary selection and entrance examinations.

  1. Stage I – Preliminary Selection
    Period: February 1 – April 15
    Outcome: Admission / Non-admission to entrance examinations
  2. Stage II – Entrance Examinations
    Document submission periods:
    July 3 – August 3 (current calendar year);
    October 28 – December 11 (current calendar year);

    Required certificates:
    KAZTEST certificate ( app.testcenter.kz );
    Valid international English proficiency certificates;

    Examination periods:
    August 4 – August 20 (current calendar year);
    November 19 – December 11 (current calendar year)
  3. Stage III – Competition for State Educational Grants
    Minimum passing score: 75 points
  4. Stage IV – Enrollment
    August 15 – August 28 (current calendar year);
    December 26 – January 10 (current calendar year);

    First day of classes: dates to be announced
  1. Submission of English Proficiency Certificates (IELTS/TOEFL):
  2. Applicants must upload a scanned copy of their valid certificate in the “UPLOAD IELTS/TOEFL RESULTS” section of their personal account and indicate the TRF number (for IELTS) or the registration/appointment number (for TOEFL). Multiple certificates may be uploaded, but only the most recently uploaded certificate will be considered.
    IELTS/TOEFL certificates are valid for two (2) years from the date of examination.
  3. All documents listed above (except recommendation letters) must be uploaded to the applicant’s personal account before the end of the online registration period.
  4. Applicants who obtained their academic degrees from foreign educational institutions must request that official transcripts be sent directly from the issuing institution to the following address:

  5. All documents must be submitted in English or with a notarized translation into English. Submission of the complete application package does not guarantee admission to the program. Applicants recommended for enrollment must provide the full set of original documents in hard copy within the established deadlines, according to the request of the Research Department.
