150 children underwent bone marrow transplantation with acute leukemia at the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health.
On September 23, 2021, in the city of Nur-Sultan in the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health of the corporate fund “UMC” conducted 150 transplants of the bone marrow of a child with acute leukemia.
A child born in 2008 living in the North Kazakhstan region, clinical diagnosis: Acute myeloblastic leukemia. Early isolated relapse. For the first time she fell ill in June 2020. After receiving a full course of chemotherapy, went into clinical and hematological remission. However, in April 2021, there was an early isolated recurrence. The child received a full course of anti-relapse chemotherapy.
Thus, among the donors of close relatives was not found, the search was carried out in the Kazakh-Russian register. As a result, an unusual donor from the city of Kirov (Russia) was found, which was completely adapted to the HLA-antigens system. The patient underwent a second clinical-hematological remission and planned allogeneic anterior bone marrow transplantation.
Here it is necessary to note that the donation of stem hematopoietic cells (bone marrow) is absolutely safe and similar to blood donation. And non-native allo transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (TSHK) was previously performed by 5 patients of the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health CF “UMC”.
Another important circumstance was that this data transplantation was performed with the participation of a hematologist, head of the transplantation department of hematopoietic stem cells R2 (National Medical Hematologist of the National Center for Hematology and Pediatric Research).Everything in the Center was previously held 149 TGSK. Survival after autologous TSK was 86.5%, after allogeneic donor – 80%, from non-genetic donor – 83.3%, after haploidentic TSK – 42.1%.
Thus, domestic medics have risen to a new level and have become able to successfully conduct this type of treatment. All stages of treatment, and this is a huge set of studies, including advanced technologies, developed in the last 10 years, the latest medical drugs and modern protocols of therapy were carried out at the expense of the state budget. Applied to the development of this branch of medicine, and today we will see the results in the face of children who have recovered from acute leukemia.
This testifies to new prospects for the development of pediatric hematooncology in Kazakhstan. It gives new hope and confidence to save children with acute leukemia. Today we can say leukemia: We are ready to defeat him!
