From October 26 to 28, a master class on the topic “Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta in the prevention of obstetric bleeding” was held at on the basis of the UMC Mother and Child Center.
Endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta was first performed at the University Medical Center with the participation of Oksana Ryazanova, an anesthesiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, and was successfully performed by specialists of our Center.
Placenta previa is a pathology in which the placenta is located in the lower segment of the uterus, partially or completely blocking the internal os. Placenta previa with increment is a spectrum of disorders characterized by abnormal attachment or penetration of the placenta into the uterine wall. This is one of the most dangerous complications during pregnancy and can lead to massive bleeding and death of both the mother and her unborn child. The essence of the technique is that specialists insert a balloon catheter through the femoral artery before caesarean section. At the right moment during the operation balloon inflates, thereby significantly reducing blood supply to the lower half of the body. This allows doctors to perform a cesarean section with minimal blood loss, saving the life of not only the mother and child, but also preserving the patient’s uterus, which will allow, if desired, to become a mother of more than one baby.
The operation was performed by Gauri Bapayeva, an obstetrician-gynecologist and Victor Zemlyansky, an interventional radiologist. Currently, the patient and the baby are doing well. Their lives and health are no longer in danger.
Innovative organ-preserving technologies are constantly being introduced into the work of specialists of the UMC Mother and Child Center for their further use in practice.
