University Medical Center specialists performed organ transplants on three patients | Корпоративный фонд "University Medical Center"

On July 17, organ transplantations on three patients who were on the waiting list for organ transplantation were successfully performed at the University Medical Center clinics. The donor was a 44-year-old woman who experienced a hemorrhagic stroke, and a medical council confirmed brain death. In a difficult situation, her family agreed for organ donation, thereby giving a chance for life to five people.

At the Heart Center UMC, the medical team performed a donor heart transplant on a 43-year-old patient who had previously been implanted with an LVAD mechanical circulatory support device. The second patient underwent a lung transplant. A kidney transplant was performed on a 15-year-old girl at the Mother and Child Center UMC. The condition of all recipients is satisfactory; they are undergoing rehabilitation under the supervision of specialists.

Also, the second donor kidney and liver were transplanted to patients at the National Research Oncology Center in Astana. Organ transplantation is one of the most difficult operations; however the experience, skills and technical equipment allow performing them at a high level in our country. Heart and lung transplants are performed only from a posthumous donor, with confirmation of brain death. However, the further process largely depends on the decision of the close relatives of the potential donor.

Successful organ transplantation is a well-coordinated teamwork of various government and medical services. First of all, we express our gratitude to the relatives of the donor who have agreed to perform the operations, specialists of the Multidisciplinary Regional Hospital of the Akmola region, transplant coordinators and transplantologists of the UMC and NROC clinics. Also, we thank the staff of the patrol police battalion of Kokshetau city, inspectors of the service, the department of the local police service of the Akmola region for providing transport support and a “green corridor”, thereby helping to save the valuable time which is important during the transportation of donor organs.
