November 17 is the World Prematurity Babies. This date is celebrated annually around the world to raise awareness about premature birth and draw attention to the problems of premature babies.
The event was established in 2011 by the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants, the “March of Dimes” organization, Africa-based the “Little Big Souls” International Foundation, as well as the Australian Preterm Birth Prevention Alliance. Since the beginning of the activity, more than fifty countries, including Kazakhstan, have joined the world holiday.
On November 17, 2023, an Open House Day was held at the University Medical Center, timed to coincide with a significant date, where our little patients were the focus of attention. From the very morning, already discharged and grown-up children came to the UMC Diagnostic Center for appointments with such specialists as a pediatrician, neurologist, gastroenterologist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, surgeon and otolaryngologist, examinations, studies and consultations were conducted.
In the afternoon, a patient school was organized for all participants with the participation of doctors of the UMC Mother and Child Center, where specialists talked about possible complications and the subtleties of caring for premature babies. The honorable guest of the event was Tamara Chumakova, Professor and Doctor of Medical Sciences, the first head of the Department of Neonatology in Kazakhstan.
The event ended with a concert program, which included parents of the parients as speakers, who expressed their gratitude to all the medical staff of the neonatology, neonatal surgery, resuscitation and neonatal intensive care units of the UMC Mother and Child Center.
